Polish Like A Pirate

This past Saturday was Talk Like A Pirate Day, a day when you can annoy/delight everyone around you by peppering your speech with arrrr's and calling people mateys and/or scallywags. I took part in this over Twitter last year and the year before I think, but I totally forgot this year. Good thing there's Tracy (aka the Cap'n) to rally the crew together:

Anyway, I figure I should put my own spin on Talk Like A Pirate Day with some pirate-themed nail art to appease the angry sea gods (it was gross and rainy that day...)

I had a ton of fun with this. Google image search for "pirate skull" gave me lots of examples to use as reference for the skull and the daggers.

As the base for the index, middle, and little fingers, I used Sephora Formula X Wunderkind. It's a very deep, smoky navy blue with a superfine pearl and microshimmer. On first glance, it can easily be mistaken as a creme finish or a black polish. It had an easy formula to work with, but a little bit thin so I needed three coats.

I'm really proud of my skull, mateys! I painted this in (as well as the daggers) with Sinful Colors Snow Me White. I'm kind of hooked--I may just do a whole hand of skulls as a Halloween nail post.

What pirate doesn't love shiny things and treasure? I used a base coat of gold foil Orly Luxe, then added Essie On A Silver Platter on top. The way the holo glitter in On A Silver Platter catches the light makes me think of glittering jewels :D For even moar gold, I finished this nail with Essie As Gold As It Gets, a pearly topper with iridescent gold shimmer.

Last but not least is my "X marks the spot" little nail with a trail painted in Orly Luxe.

I really love how this set turned out! I was genuinely surprised at how the skull ended up fitting inside my nail pretty well; I sort of started painting it in without planning or considering proportions at all lolol.

Hope you enjoyed this post! Let me know in the comments what your pirate name would be! (Fittingly, mine is Polish Petey :P)
